TikTok creator Rebecca Luna died on July 25 at the age of 49, following a battle with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Her passing was announced on her TikTok account.
Luna gained a following of over 47,000 users after revealing her diagnosis in April 2025. She documented her experiences, including doctor's appointments and her decision to pursue Medical Aid in Dying (MAID), sharing resources for end-of-life options. Her content often detailed the challenges of her illness, which began in her late 40s and included symptoms such as blacking out mid-conversation and forgetting household tasks.
In her final TikTok post, Luna explained her decision to accelerate her end-of-life plan. "Prior to the dates changing, for the last year and a half has been legally and medically not my choice. But for the last two weeks I’ve been making the decision," she stated. "And it’s a hard decision to make, because I’m living in a body that doesn’t feel comfortable, safe, good, nothing. It feels terrible. And so the idea of waiting two weeks felt like too much."
She described the experience as a chance to prioritize herself, something she felt she had not done throughout her life. Luna reflected on past struggles, noting that while they brought her to a place of self-knowledge and an understanding of her own character, she had "suffered enough in this world."
Early-onset Alzheimer's, which accounts for a small fraction of the approximately seven million Americans with Alzheimer's, often involves more rapid cognitive decline and a shorter life expectancy after diagnosis, typically around eight years. Luna, a single mother, had been unable to continue working due to her condition and had sought financial support to cover rent, food, and medical expenses, with any remaining funds intended for her two children.
Luna had shared that her neurologist projected a life expectancy of five to seven years following her diagnosis at age 46. Her GoFundMe campaign highlighted the devastating impact of the illness on her family and her fear of leaving her children without financial security. She also expressed a desire to fulfill bucket list items, including meeting singer Lily Allen.
Her passing was announced with a message stating, "Rebecca passed away July 25th at approximately 1:15 p.m. surrounded by her loved ones. Thank you for your support and privacy."
