Tiger Woods plans to change his not guilty plea in his DUI case stemming from a March rollover crash in Florida, according to court documents filed Tuesday.
The 15-time major champion has maintained a low profile since the accident in Jupiter Island, Florida, where his Land Rover overturned. Woods was charged with two misdemeanor counts of DUI with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. Police found two opioid tablets in his pocket at the time of his arrest.
Woods has since undergone rehabilitation in Switzerland and had not been seen publicly in the United States until last month.
He is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday to formalize the plea change, court records indicate. The incident occurred when Woods was driving at a high speed along a beachside road and his vehicle clipped a tractor trailer, causing it to roll onto its side. The collision resulted in approximately $5,000 worth of damage to the other vehicle.
Woods exited the vehicle without apparent injuries. He later told officers he was looking at his phone and adjusting the radio at the moment of the crash.
In April, reports indicated that the golfer would be leaving the country for treatment.
Woods' name was once synonymous with golf's highest achievements.
