Tiger Woods appeared in a Florida court on Wednesday to change his plea in a driving under the influence case stemming from a March rollover crash. As part of a plea agreement, Woods pleaded no contest to reckless driving and careless driving citations, and agreed to a five-year suspension of his driver's license.
Initially, Woods had pleaded not guilty to charges of driving under the influence with property damage and refusal to submit to a lawful test. The prosecution amended the first charge to reckless driving, second offense, and the second charge to a careless driving citation. The judge imposed the five-year license suspension concurrently on both charges, stating the suspension is for the safety of the public and that any driving during that period would result in immediate jail time.
Woods was arrested on March 27 in Jupiter Island, Florida, after his SUV rolled over. Authorities said the accident occurred when Woods attempted to pass a truck and clipped its trailer. No injuries were reported in the crash.
During the arrest, two hydrocodone pills were found in Woods' pants pocket. A breathalyzer test indicated no alcohol in his system, but Woods refused to submit to a urine test, which is used to detect drugs or medication.
Vanessa Trump, ex-wife of Donald Trump Jr., accompanied Woods in court on Wednesday.
