Tielemans Calls Out Lack of Effort in Manchester United Dressing Room

Youri Tielemans has acknowledged a concerning lack of effort within the Manchester United dressing room, alongside deficiencies in technical and tactical execution, in the aftermath of the team's defeat to Como. The club's winless streak across all competitions has now extended to seven games after a 4-1 loss in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

This latest setback follows a pattern of slow starts, with Manchester United conceding early goals in both halves against Como, and similarly falling behind just 53 seconds into their previous Champions League match against Atletico Madrid. Reflecting on the team's performance, Tielemans told TNT Sports that the issues are multifaceted.

"It's a combination of everything: tactical, technical, effort. We need to try do better at everything," Tielemans stated. He admitted that the team was outplayed for large portions of the match against Como, noting that despite discussions at halftime to rally the squad, the deficit was quickly extended after the break.

Tielemans emphasized that the team must improve across all facets of the game. "You can be good tactically but if the effort isn't there, or the other way round, you have to be good at everything, but tonight we were poor at everything," he said. He echoed the sentiment from recent weeks, stating that the players need to demonstrate their commitment on the pitch rather than just discussing it.

The midfielder apologized to the fans for the team's performances, acknowledging their disappointment. He stated that the only recourse is to show improvement in upcoming matches.

This marks the second consecutive week Tielemans has addressed the media. He declined to comment on a previous remark by teammate Lisandro Martinez, who criticized the club's hierarchy for perceived underinvestment in the summer transfer window. Tielemans himself was a notable acquisition during that period, having joined from Aston Villa for £35 million.

Manchester United is set to host Bournemouth in the Premier League on Sunday, aiming to end their prolonged winless run.
