Three Young Adults, Including UCLA Student, Die in California Head-On Collision

A head-on collision in California on Sunday night resulted in the deaths of three young adults, including a UCLA student. Abigail Tinoco, 19, died along with 18-year-olds Sebastian Burgos and Noah Trevino in the crash that occurred around 9 p.m. on Abbott Street in Monterey County.

The accident involved a black Nissan Altima traveling south and a white Honda CR-V traveling north. According to the California Highway Patrol, the Honda CR-V entered the southbound lane for an undetermined reason, leading to the head-on impact. A total of six individuals were involved, with three in each vehicle.

Three survivors, identified as the 21-year-old driver of the Honda CR-V, the 20-year-old driver of the Nissan, and a 20-year-old Nissan passenger, were transported to Natividad Medical Center with significant injuries. Authorities confirmed that neither driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the collision, and it remains unclear if speed was a factor.

Tinoco, a second-year student at UCLA, was pursuing a law degree. Her sister described her as a determined individual who was the "rock" of their family and a constant source of laughter. Tinoco was a salutatorian at Downey High School, where she participated in track and cross country.

Sebastian Burgos, also from Downey, California, had recently begun his first quarter at UC Santa Cruz, majoring in biology. His mother remembered him as a selfless individual who enjoyed drawing and running, with aspirations of becoming a veterinarian.

Noah Trevino, 18, was the third fatality. His brother, Nathan Trevino, was among those who sustained major injuries. Families of the victims have initiated GoFundMe campaigns to help cover memorial expenses and other unforeseen costs associated with their loss. Tinoco's family has raised over $21,000 towards their $40,000 goal.
