A three-year-old girl has died after drowning at the Don Pedro Reservoir in California, authorities reported. The Tuolumne County Sheriff's Office (TCSO) received a call Saturday afternoon reporting that Lailah Rosillo was missing and may have drowned in the Fleming Meadows Lagoon.
During the response, further calls indicated that the child had been found and members of the public were performing CPR. Despite these efforts and the assistance of deputies, firefighters, and medics, Lailah could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. She was declared deceased before any further medical intervention could be administered.
On Tuesday, the TCSO requested public assistance in collecting more information regarding the fatal drowning. Investigators are particularly interested in photos or videos that may show the child on a raft or boat with other children. They are also seeking to speak with any witnesses who may have seen Lailah before she was found in the water. Authorities released an image of a blue raft that may have been involved in the incident, showing that other individuals were reportedly near the vessel.
Fleming Meadows, located approximately three hours east of San Francisco, is a popular area offering camping loops, a 2-acre swimming lagoon, a beach, and other family amenities. The reservoir was created in 1971.
A GoFundMe campaign established to support funeral and memorial expenses described the incident as a "joyful family camping trip became an unimaginable nightmare." According to a close friend of Lailah's grandmother, who organized the fundraiser, Lailah was known for a smile that "brought happiness to everyone around her." She is survived by an older brother, an older sister, and a baby brother.
As of Wednesday, the fundraiser had raised approximately $8,900 of its $12,000 goal. Lailah's aunt shared on Facebook that the loss was the "most horrible thing possible" and expressed concern for her sister's pain, stating, "All we can do is be here for her and other kids."
