Three Teens Injured in Pittsburgh Shooting After High School Football Game
Gunshots erupted on the South Side of Pittsburgh following a high school football game, injuring three teenagers amidst post-game celebrations.
Three teenagers were injured when gunshots were fired on Pittsburgh's South Side following a high school football game Thursday night, authorities reported.
The incident occurred on Carson Street near George K. Cupples Stadium shortly after Westinghouse High School defeated University Prep 35-0. Video footage from the scene captured the moments after the game, showing players being interviewed for a local broadcast when the sound of multiple gunshots could be heard. In the viral clip, players and bystanders are seen scrambling for cover as panic ensues.
Pittsburgh Police Chief Jason Lando stated that two teenage boys and one teenage girl sustained injuries and were transported to a local hospital, where they are listed in stable condition. It remains unclear if the victims or the shooter were participants or attendees of the game itself.
According to Lando, the area outside the stadium was crowded post-game, and several fights broke out. Responding officers, including those from the city and Port Authority, were on scene to help manage the crowd and de-escalate altercations when an individual produced a firearm and discharged it multiple times.
Police confirmed that the stadium had implemented security measures, including metal detectors, for the game. Despite the heavy police presence, the shooting occurred in the adjacent public area.
The events disrupted the celebration for the Westinghouse Wildcats, who secured a decisive victory over a rival team. The shooting is now under active investigation, and police are seeking information to identify the suspect, who remains at large.
