Three Sisters Drowned in Brighton, Police Investigation Finds No Criminality

Three sisters who drowned in the sea off Brighton have been identified by police as Jane Adetoro, 36, Christina Walters, 32, and Rebecca Walters, 31. A police investigation has concluded that there is 'no evidence of criminality' in their deaths.

Sussex Police stated that the trio died after entering the sea together. The sisters, who were living together in Greenford, north-west London, were found fully clothed in the English Channel around 5:45 a.m. on May 13. Rebecca was washed ashore and declared dead by a paramedic, while Jane and Christina were found at sea and brought to shore by an RNLI crew.

An inquest into their deaths was opened on May 29, and post-mortem examinations confirmed that all three died by drowning.

According to the police investigation, the sisters were dropped off by a taxi at Madeira Drive at 10:20 p.m. on May 12. Investigators found no evidence that they visited any nightclubs or local businesses prior to their deaths. The police concluded that the sisters entered the water near where their bodies were later found.

Chief Superintendent Adam Hays stated that the investigation was thorough and considered concerns raised by black communities regarding deaths in or near bodies of water. He added that the police would support the coronial process and requested privacy for the family.

The sisters are survived by a sister, Lillian, and their father, Joseph Jacobson. At their joint funeral in June, Jacobson described his daughters as his "joy, my strength and the beautiful light that filled my life with love." He remembered Jane for her strength, Christina for her kindness, and Rebecca for her warmth and joyful spirit.

Relatives also revealed that the sisters' mother had died by drowning in Birmingham 16 years prior. At the funeral, a cousin, Natalie Walters-Daniel, spoke on behalf of the family, stating, "Your lives will never be forgotten, and your memory will live on forever."
