Three individuals were rescued from the waters of San Francisco Bay on Saturday after their sailboat capsized approximately half a mile east of San Francisco International Airport. The incident occurred near Coyote Point around 1:30 p.m.
Members of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit were in the vicinity conducting training exercises near the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge when they were dispatched to the scene. The sailors, all residents of Foster City, were successfully brought back to shore and transported to Coyote Point Marina.
Paramedics evaluated the rescued individuals as a precautionary measure, and they were treated for cold exposure. However, authorities confirmed that all three were otherwise uninjured.
Following the rescue, deputies towed the disabled sailboat back to the marina. Sheriff Ken Binder commended the Marine Unit for their swift and professional response, stating, "I’m so proud of our Marine Unit who not only demonstrated their commitment to public safety, but also put their years of experience, training and professionalism on full display by saving three community members from the bay."
He added, "The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office is proud to serve our community on land, in the air and on the water."
