Three Men Found Guilty in Murder of Australian Brothers and American Friend

Three Mexican men have been found guilty of murdering two Australian brothers and their American friend during a surfing trip in Baja California. The verdict came after a month-long trial in Ensenada.

Jesús Gerardo García, known as “El Kekas,” along with Irineo Francisco “N” and Ángel Jesús “N,” were convicted of murder, armed robbery, and armed carjacking. The victims were identified as Australian brothers Callum and Jake Robinson, aged 33 and 30 respectively, and their 30-year-old American friend, Carter Redd Rhoad.

“Today’s guilty verdict is a significant moment in our long and painful journey to seek justice for our beautiful sons, Callum and Jake, and their friend Carter Rhoad, whose lives were so cruelly taken from them,” said Martin Robinson, the father of the Australian brothers.

The trio disappeared shortly after arriving in Punta San Jose, approximately 50 miles from Ensenada. Their bodies were discovered on May 3, 2024, at the bottom of a well near their burnt-out white pickup truck. The discovery followed a nearly week-long search.

García was identified as the primary perpetrator and was arrested in May 2024 along with his ex-girlfriend, Ary Gisell Silva Raya, and the other two defendants. Silva Raya testified that García approached the tourists' tent armed with a 9mm pistol. She stated that the tourists attempted to defend themselves by throwing their belongings at García and that one of them pleaded for his life.

According to Baja California Attorney General María Elena Andrade Ramírez, prosecutors believe García attempted to steal tires and other parts from the surfers’ vehicle. He allegedly shot the men when they resisted, subsequently concealing their bodies in the well.

García, Irineo Francisco, and Ángel Jesús are scheduled for sentencing on October 16. The Baja California State Attorney General’s Office is seeking a sentence of 210 years in prison for each of the convicted men.

Ary Gisell Silva Raya was sentenced in November 2025 to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to aggravated robbery and violent vehicle charges. She was found in possession of the victims' cell phones.
