Three Injured in Shooting at Los Angeles Senior Living Facility
A fellow employee is in custody after allegedly opening fire on co-workers at the Progressive Home for the Elderly.
Three staff members were injured in a shooting at a senior living facility in South Los Angeles on Monday, and a fellow employee has been taken into custody, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
The incident occurred shortly before 11 a.m. PT in the lobby of the Progressive Home for the Elderly. The suspect was located on another floor of the six-story building and apprehended by authorities.
One of the three victims, who were all staff members, sustained critical injuries. The other two victims were reported to be in stable condition. The injured individuals included a man in his 60s and two women in their 40s and 70s. All three were transported to a local hospital.
No residents of the facility, which houses over 100 individuals, were harmed during the shooting. The suspect, described as a man in his 60s, is also an employee of the facility. His position at the residence is still being determined.
LAPD Deputy Chief Marc Reina stated that the suspect had not yet been booked, and further details were withheld.
Los Angeles City Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson commended the swift response of first responders, stating their actions likely prevented further casualties. He added that city officials would continue to collaborate with law enforcement to investigate the incident and work towards preventing firearms in senior housing facilities.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
