Three Girls Charged in Violent Attack on York College Students
Juvenile suspects face felony riot and assault charges following a caught-on-camera mob incident near campus.
Three juvenile girls have been charged in connection with the assault of York College of Pennsylvania students, an incident captured on video, authorities announced Friday.
The charges against the suspects include felony riot, misdemeanor simple assault, defiant trespass, and harassment. The girls' identities are being withheld due to their ages, according to York City Police Captain Daniel Lentz.
The incident occurred early Saturday morning when a large group, estimated to be over 100 people, allegedly invaded an off-campus home occupied by female York College students. According to one of the victims, the altercation began when the students asked the crowd, gathered for an illegal street race, to leave their property. This request reportedly led to the mob becoming enraged.
Victims stated that several students were dragged by their hair, punched, kicked, maced, and beaten to the point of unconsciousness. York County District Attorney Tim Barker confirmed that multiple students sustained injuries, though he noted that none of the injuries were life-threatening.
"We absolutely will fully hold accountable the individuals that did this," Barker stated at a press conference. He added that while the juvenile justice system is primarily focused on rehabilitation, the accused will face serious consequences.
