Three people were killed and several others were injured in a shooting at a food festival near the Space Needle in Seattle on Sunday, according to the city fire department.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. local time at the Seattle Centre, which was hosting the annual Bite of Seattle food festival. Mayor Katie Wilson stated that one suspect was taken into custody following the event. Assistant Chief of Seattle Police Tyrone Davis confirmed that a second suspect fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended, adding that the suspects are believed to have been shooting at each other.
Two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, and a third died later at a hospital. Among the injured is a two-year-old boy. Videos circulating online showed people seeking shelter inside the Space Needle, with some seen crouching behind pillars and merchandise displays in the lobby.
Four of the injured were transported to a hospital in stable condition, while a fifth declined medical attention, the fire department reported.
The Seattle Police Department has launched an investigation and is asking the public to avoid the area. Mayor Wilson expressed gratitude to the Seattle police officers who responded and apprehended a suspect. She had initially reported two suspects in custody before issuing a later correction.
