Three people, including a child, were found dead Wednesday morning in what authorities suspect was a murder-suicide at a daycare home in Hopkins, Minnesota. The victims are believed to be a family, with the father suspected of killing his wife and child before ending his own life.
Police responded to emergency calls at approximately 9 a.m. local time at a residence on the 200 block of Tyler Ave. North. Officers discovered the bodies of a man, a woman, and a child inside the home, which also operated as a daycare. The exact weapon used in the incident remains unclear.
Seven children were present at the daycare at the time of the events. Authorities stated that the killings appeared to occur in view of the other children. One parent, who was dropping off their own child, witnessed aspects of the incident and alerted police.
All children present were unharmed and have since been reunited with their parents. It is currently unknown if the deceased child was one of the seven children counted at the daycare during the incident.
Hopkins is a suburb located southwest of Minneapolis. Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey acknowledged the incident as a "critical incident" and offered the city's assistance to Hopkins officials. The victims were believed to be a family.
