Three arrested in alleged plot for metro Atlanta high school shooting
Authorities found weapons and ammunition while investigating threats discovered online.
Three individuals, including two juveniles, have been arrested in connection with an alleged plot to carry out a shooting at a metro Atlanta high school, authorities announced Tuesday.
The arrests follow the recent shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Oregon, where a 16-year-old boy killed three children and a teacher.
Investigators with the FBI discovered threatening posts online made by one of the suspects. The Canton Police Department, in conjunction with local law enforcement, apprehended two suspects in Georgia and one in California on October 20 and October 23. Police reported that weapons and ammunition were found during the investigation.
The suspects, one 21-year-old and two juveniles aged 17 and an unspecified age, are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder. According to Dr. Mary Elizabeth Davis, the Cherokee County School Superintendent, one of the juveniles is a former student at Cherokee High School.
The Canton Police Department stated that the investigation is ongoing and did not provide further details regarding the specifics of the alleged plot or how close the suspects were to executing it.
