Three individuals have pleaded guilty to their roles in a £225,000 smash-and-grab robbery at a family-run jewelry store in Richmond, southwest London. Deniz Mehmet, 28, Robert Clarke, 50, and Lee Ramsey, 46, admitted conspiracy to rob following the daylight incident at Gregory & Co. jewelers on January 31. The theft gained widespread attention after bystander footage of the raid, which occurred in an area known as a filming location for the American TV series "Ted Lasso," was shared online.

During the raid, one suspect used a large hammer to smash the shop's windows, while another stuffed watches, bracelets, and other jewelry into a large blue plastic bag. Shop staff attempted to fend off the attackers, but the thieves fled on foot with the stolen goods. None of the stolen jewelry has been recovered.

Eyewitnesses described seeing two men appear suddenly, one carrying a sledgehammer and the other a bag. The incident occurred in front of onlookers who expressed concern for their safety.

Following the incident, the Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad launched an investigation. Detectives reviewed CCTV footage, conducted forensic analysis, and recovered a vehicle believed to be connected to the robbery. This investigation led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the three defendants in March and April. Bodycam footage released by the police showed officers arresting Clarke and Ramsey while they were asleep in their homes.

Detective Superintendent Dan Mitchell stated that robberies of this nature cause significant concern for residents and businesses and emphasized the police's commitment to tackling such crimes. He added that those responsible should expect relentless pursuit.

Mehmet pleaded guilty to conspiracy to rob at Kingston Crown Court, while Ramsey and Clarke had previously admitted the same offense. The three men, all from Essex, are scheduled to be sentenced at the end of the month.

A spokesperson for Gregory & Co., a family business that has operated in Richmond for over 45 years, thanked the public for their support and kindness, stating that the overwhelming response reassured them that "good outweighs the bad."
