Thousands Volunteer for Coastal Cleanup Day Across Los Angeles

Thousands of volunteers gathered on Los Angeles County beaches for the 37th annual Coastal Cleanup Day, dedicating their Saturday to removing trash and recyclables from the coastline. The event, organized by Heal the Bay, offered over 60 cleanup sites across the county where participants could contribute.

In Venice and Santa Monica, volunteers were observed collecting litter in buckets and orange trash bags. This yearly initiative is designed to bring communities together for the crucial task of cleaning beaches, waterways, and other coastal areas. Last year's cleanup efforts by Heal the Bay resulted in the collection of an estimated 19,000 pounds of trash.

The Los Angeles cleanup is a collaborative effort involving the California Coastal Commission and Ocean Conservancy, part of a larger statewide initiative to combat pollution that can harm marine ecosystems and wildlife. Similar cleanups took place throughout California as part of the state's 42nd annual Coastal Cleanup Day, with an anticipated 50,000 volunteers participating at over 700 sites across all 58 counties.
