Thief Steals $17,400 in Sports Cards from Brooklyn Building
Police are searching for a suspect caught on camera gleefully taking the high-value merchandise.
A thief made off with approximately $17,400 worth of collector sports cards from a Brooklyn building on Monday afternoon, according to police.
The stolen items, which were contained within multiple packages, included rare basketball cards featuring the late NBA legend Kobe Bryant. The suspect was captured on surveillance footage smiling as they left the building with the valuable haul.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. near West End Avenue and Shore Boulevard. The suspect entered the building and exited on foot with the packages. Surveillance video appears to show the individual leaving a mail room within a residential building.
The suspect was described as wearing an orange ball cap, a sleeveless Brooklyn Brewery T-shirt, camouflage shorts, and flip-flops. It is unclear if the individual knew the contents of the packages when they took them.
The value of sports cards can vary significantly based on rarity, player autographs, and condition, with limited edition rookie cards in pristine shape often fetching the highest prices.
