The Wall Street Journal's editorial board has criticized former President Donald Trump's recent remarks regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, accusing him of disproportionately focusing on Ukraine's actions while downplaying Russia's aggression.

In an editorial titled “Trump Lectures Ukraine, not Russia,” the Journal's board highlighted Trump's call for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to cease targeting Russian energy facilities. This warning, according to the editorial, came despite Russia's continued attacks on Ukrainian civilian targets, including a recent strike on a passenger train near the Polish border.

Trump stated, "Zelenskyy has to do one thing. He has to stop knocking out diesel fuel in Russia. Let him go after targets but not diesel fuel, because he’s causing a shortage of diesel fuel." The Journal's board characterized this stance as Ukraine being expected to retaliate only against non-critical targets within Russia, while Russia is permitted to strike any target within Ukraine.

The editorial board described Trump's reasoning as "political excuse-making on a grand scale," suggesting his concern for global fuel prices amid attacks on Middle Eastern oil infrastructure is misplaced when applied to Ukraine's defensive actions against Russian energy targets.
