‘The View’ Hosts Back Harris’ Call Against Impeaching Trump
Panelists agree impeachment is a resource drain and politically unfeasible, suggesting focus on policy and investigations.
Co-hosts of the ABC talk show “The View” largely agreed with former Vice President Kamala Harris’ assessment that impeaching former President Donald Trump would not be a productive use of Democratic Party resources if they regain control of Congress.
Harris stated on “The Parnas Perspective” podcast that impeachment proceedings are not a good idea due to limited resources and the lack of sufficient votes in the Senate for conviction. She emphasized that Democratic energy and resources should instead be directed toward accountability and investigations.
“The View” co-host Sunny Hostin echoed this sentiment, suggesting that House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is expected to become Speaker if Democrats win the majority, has a legislative agenda focused on issues like tax credits, limiting ICE, and stock trade reform. Hostin indicated that impeaching Trump might not be part of the Democratic plan.
Ana Navarro, another co-host, stressed the importance of Democrats focusing on winning the upcoming midterm elections before planning post-election strategies. She cautioned against prioritizing impeachment discussions over get-out-the-vote efforts. Navarro also pointed out the practical challenges of impeachment, noting that even with a Democratic majority in Congress, legislation requires the president’s signature or a veto-proof majority, which she deemed difficult to achieve. She suggested numerous alternative ways to hold Trump accountable without impeachment, highlighting that impeachment requires 67 Senate votes for conviction, rendering it moot without such support.
Joy Behar drew a parallel to former President Richard Nixon’s resignation, stating that impeachment is pointless without the votes to convict. Sara Haines advised Democrats to acknowledge that many of Trump’s supporters feel let down by his unfulfilled promises. She suggested that Democrats could gain favor by focusing on delivering on their own campaign pledges, even if it means pushing policies that might face presidential vetoes, to demonstrate action for the voters.
Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that instead of impeachment, Democrats should focus on “day one” initiatives that could garner bipartisan support, such as repealing Trump’s tariffs or pausing the war in Iran. She argued these actions could directly benefit Americans, potentially lowering fuel prices, and secure Republican votes.
This discussion aligns with previous warnings from Democratic strategist James Carville, who also advised against impeaching Trump if Democrats secure a congressional majority. Democratic strategist Dan Turrentine told Fox News Digital that neither the Senate’s vote count nor public sentiment supports impeachment. He stated that Democrats should focus on addressing economic concerns, tariffs, healthcare, and the war in Iran, rather than pursuing retribution, which could lead to a return to the minority party status.
