‘The Traitors’ Participant Diane Carson Claims Celebrities Had an Easier Experience

Diane Carson, a participant in the second season of the reality competition series "The Traitors," has shared her perspective on the filming process, asserting that celebrity contestants likely had a less demanding experience than those without prior fame.

Carson, a retired teacher from Northern Ireland, became a recognizable figure on the show, particularly for her dramatic reveal that her son, Ross, was also a contestant. She recalled the filming, which took place over three to four weeks at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands, as an "immersive" and consuming experience. "The celebrities have an easier time than us!" Carson stated, contrasting her own experience with that of the current "Celebrity Traitors" cast.

This season's celebrity contestants, including Maya Jama, James Acaster, Richard E. Grant, and Miranda Hart, have reportedly been advised to "toughen up" following complaints about the production. Comedian James Acaster described his experience as akin to "living in East Germany under Soviet control," while another unnamed participant characterized producers as being "like human traffickers." Carson noted that while celebrity contestants are permitted monitored phone calls home, participants in the regular season were entirely cut off from the outside world. "All we got was a pre-recorded video from our loved ones once a week," she said, adding that she nonetheless "loved every moment of the show."

Carson's comments come as the "Celebrity Traitors" finale approached. The show's participants have faced intense scrutiny, with James Acaster recently expressing distress and anxiety during a Round Table discussion, where he revealed his unexpected role as a Traitor after aiming to be a Faithful. He was subsequently voted out by his fellow contestants. The finale was set to feature Traitors Maya Jama and King Kenny competing against Faithfuls Sebastian Croft, James Blunt, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Michael Sheen, and Romesh Ranganathan.

Carson recently attended London Dungeon's Halloween Show "Curse Of The Mummy" with her son, Ross, who also competed on "The Traitors." She expressed enjoyment in participating in activities with her children, viewing it as a way to create memories. She noted her family's affinity for immersive experiences, which led them to apply for "The Traitors" in the first place.
