A specific oral sex technique, referred to as the 'Kivin method' or the sideways method, is gaining attention for its potential to enhance sexual experiences by altering the angle of stimulation.

Unlike traditional approaches where the giver faces the receiver head-on, the Kivin method involves the giver lying across the receiver's body, aligning their lips from a side-to-side, perpendicular position. Typically, the receiver will raise one or both legs onto the giver's shoulder to allow for better access.

This technique is designed to stimulate the clitoris, vulva, and perineum from the side, offering a broader and potentially more intense sensation. The perineum is the area of tissue located between the anus and the genitals.

Sex therapists and sexologists suggest that this sideways approach naturally changes the type of stimulation provided. Sadie Allison, a sexologist and author, noted that the position may also be more comfortable for the giver, particularly for their neck, allowing for longer sessions and increased pleasure for the receiver.

"Your hands are free in a different way, so you can easily touch breasts, stomach, thighs, and hips from a new angle, creating a fuller experience," Allison explained. "Internal stimulation can be easier to incorporate. With this new position, it can be easier to provide vaginal, G-spot, or even anal play at the same time."

The method also allows for greater physical connection, as the receiver can more easily engage with the giver. "This makes for a more intimate and connected experience," Allison added. "Try rubbing their shoulders, playing with their hair, or tease their nipples."

While the exact origins of the 'Kivin' name are unclear, the technique has been mentioned in sex education resources, including a 2001 mention in 'The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Tantric Sex.'

Experts suggest several ways to implement the Kivin method. It can be beneficial to warm up and stretch beforehand to prepare the body. One suggested position involves the receiver lying on a couch with the giver kneeling beside them, tilting their head. Another variation has the receiver lying on their side with their top leg bent and slightly lifted.

A pillow can also be used under the receiver's hips when they are on their back, allowing the giver to lie on their stomach for optimal access and angle.

Open communication between partners is crucial when exploring new techniques. "When we slow down and make connections like this, it suddenly can make more sense, and lead to more opportunities for pleasure," said Greg Kilpatrick, a psychotherapist and sex therapist.

Allison also suggests techniques like "The Velvet Glide," which involves creating a soft seal with the lips over the entire vulva and gliding side-to-side with gentle suction to stimulate multiple areas and build anticipation. This approach can provide more comprehensive coverage and heighten sensations by engaging nerve endings throughout the inner labia, not just the clitoris.
