The Chase's Shaun Wallace Details Rigorous Fitness Routine
The 66-year-old television personality and criminal defense barrister adheres to a demanding daily exercise regimen.
Shaun Wallace, the 66-year-old star of the ITV quiz show The Chase, has revealed the demanding fitness routine that has contributed to his significant weight loss. Known to fans as "The Dark Destroyer," Wallace has shed approximately three-and-a-half stone in recent years.
Wallace's daily regimen includes 2,000 sit-ups and 300 kettlebell swings. He begins his day with this physical exercise. "The first thing I do every single morning is my physical exercise," Wallace stated. In addition to his sit-ups, he incorporates a "kettlebell challenge where I swing a kettlebell 300 times a day."
His commitment to fitness extends beyond his morning routine. As a criminal defense barrister, Wallace often heads to the gym for another intense workout after a day in court or filming. He also works with a personal trainer who, currently based in New York, provides rowing challenges. Recently, Wallace completed a 10,000-meter row, and the day prior, he rowed 8,000 meters on a machine in his loft.
Wallace's diet complements his exercise plan. He starts his day with a banana and ensures his lunch or dinner includes fish to increase his omega-3 intake. He has shared videos on Instagram showcasing his trimmed physique in athletic wear and has not ruled out participating in a shirtless photoshoot if the financial offer is substantial.
"If I get invited to do one and the money’s right, of course I’ll do it," Wallace said. He is also open to fitness-related collaborations, stating, "If I’m asked, I’ll do it." However, he emphasizes that his dedication is primarily for his "own physical and personal development at the age of 66," rather than solely for commercial gain.
Wallace believes in the broader importance of health and fitness, noting that older individuals often tell him he inspires them. "I think everybody has a responsibility to invest in their own health," he remarked. He pointed to the national obesity and mental health crises, suggesting that physical fitness can improve mental agility.
Wallace's commitment to health was partly influenced by his parents' struggles with diabetes. "My mum and dad both got diabetes quite early, and I thought it was incumbent on me not to fall into the same trap," he explained. He began exercising daily after turning 50, aiming to invest in his physical and mental well-being. Wallace used to play football and run frequently before dedicating himself to a daily fitness routine.
He also commented on his co-star Mark "The Beast" Labbett's significant 10-stone weight loss. Wallace dismissed any notion of rivalry between them regarding their health journeys, praising Labbett's efforts. "We’re quite close mates, and I remember when he had type 2 diabetes, I did say to him that he really had to look after himself," Wallace said, adding that Labbett's dedication to his fitness regime and diet, along with caring for his young son, contributed to his weight loss.
