The Block Host Scott Cam Reflects on 'Rollercoaster Ride' of Season Finale Auctions

The Block host Scott Cam acknowledged the emotional intensity of the show's highly anticipated auction day, describing it as a "rollercoaster ride" for himself and the contestants.

Cam, alongside co-host Shelley Craft, appeared in good spirits at the Mount Eliza properties on Saturday, posing for photos with the 2026 cast. "The vibes this morning are pretty full on as always after Block auctions. I can't give too much away, of course, I don't even know why I'm here," Cam joked to Weekend Today ahead of the finale broadcast. He added, "It was a rollercoaster ride yesterday, I am exhausted, as always. It's a really long day, and I felt a bit sick in the stomach for most of it, I can tell you it was full on!"

The auction day unfolded under a cloud of uncertainty for the contestants due to Victoria's new auction laws, which mandate the disclosure of reserve prices. These changes took effect just two weeks prior to the auctions, coinciding with a challenging property market in Victoria where clearance rates have been around 50%.

"With the way the market is in Victoria, 50 per cent clearance rates in the last weeks, the new laws that have come out where you've gotta reveal the reserve price, which no one really knows how that's going to affect an auction," Cam explained. He expressed hope that "if you've got a fair reserve price, which ours were, it means people will turn up knowing how much they've got to spend."

Each of the five properties on The Block had a reserve price of $3.45 million and a sale guideline between $3.6 million and $3.9 million. An exception was Rick and Tayla's House 5, which received a $50,000 reduction to its reserve price after winning Week 12 of the competition.

Cam emphasized his desire for the contestants to profit from their hard work. "I spend three months with these guys, they work really hard. We never set anybody up to fail on The Block, we always want them to make money and do well," he stated. "We're proud of what they've done, we always hope they make money and sometimes, as we've seen before, sometimes they don't."

The results of The Block's 2026 auctions are set to be revealed in the season finale, airing on Channel Nine and 9Now on Sunday at 7pm.

Cam revealed the contestants were particularly anxious given the uncertainty surrounding Victoria's new auction laws, which require sellers to disclose their reserve prices
