Twenty-five years after the September 11, 2001 attacks, which claimed nearly 3,000 lives in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania, the family of Osama bin Laden has taken widely divergent paths.

While the name Bin Laden remains synonymous with terror, several relatives have actively sought to distance themselves from his legacy. Osama bin Laden, the founder of Al-Qaeda, orchestrated the 9/11 attacks and was killed in a U.S. raid in 2011. He had admitted to orchestrating the attacks and went into hiding for a decade before his death.

Noor Bin Laden, his niece, has emerged as a prominent critic of radical Islam. Raised in Switzerland by her mother, author Carmen Dufour, Noor maintained a low profile until 2020. She has expressed strong support for former U.S. President Donald Trump, stating in an interview with the New York Post that his re-election was vital for the future of America and Western civilization. She has blamed radical Islam for numerous terrorist attacks in Europe and expressed concern about its perceived alignment with the left in the U.S. In 2021, she was seen on a boat in Geneva waving a 'Trump Won' flag.

Noor's older sister, Wafah Dufour, a glamour model and singer who fronts the band Deep Tan, lives in London. Wafah has also worked to distance herself from her uncle, recounting how the 9/11 attacks significantly impacted her life. After earning a master's degree in law from Columbia University in New York, she was meant to return to her apartment in Soho but was forced to remain in Geneva with her mother for six months due to the intense scrutiny. In a 2006 interview with GQ, she described experiencing an identity crisis and the exhaustion of constantly having to explain her dissociation from her uncle's actions. She later moved to London to pursue her music career.

Osama bin Laden's son, Omar, who had lived a quiet life as an artist in France, re-emerged in public discourse two years ago. French authorities reported that in May 2023, he published social media comments that glorified terrorism and Al-Qaeda on the anniversary of his father's death, leading to his departure from France. Omar, who left his father's influence at 19, has described his father as cruel and abusive. He eventually married British citizen Zaina Mohamed Al-Sabah, formerly Jane Felix-Browne, in 2006. They met while creating art together and he has since focused on his artistic endeavors, drawing inspiration from his childhood. He reportedly resides in Qatar.

Bakr Bin Laden, in his late 70s, has led a life vastly different from his half-brother, focusing on business. An American-educated civil engineer, he took control of the family's construction business, the Saudi Binladen Group, in 1988. His relationship with Saudi royalty helped expand the firm, but this alliance fractured in 2017 when he was arrested as part of an anti-corruption purge by Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. He was detained for years before his release in January 2019, during which he transferred his significant stake in the Saudi Binladen Group to the government. He has since largely disappeared from public view.

Little is known about Osama bin Laden's three widows. In April 2012, they were deported to Saudi Arabia after serving sentences in Pakistan for illegally entering the country following the 2011 raid that killed their husband. His Yemeni wife, Amal al-Sadah, and his two Saudi wives, Khairiah Sabar and Siham Sabar, were reportedly placed in a monitored residential compound in Jeddah, funded by the Bin Laden family. The Saudi government provided them with accommodation and living expenses under strict conditions, prohibiting interviews, publications, or free communication with the outside world.
