‘The Bachelor’ Seeking Dr. Mike Varshavski for Season 30
Producers of the long-running dating show are reportedly looking to return to the series' original intent of finding genuine love, and have contacted the internet-famous doctor.
Producers for the reality dating show "The Bachelor" are reportedly seeking a new lead for its upcoming 30th season, aiming to revert to the program's "old-school roots" by finding a contestant genuinely interested in finding love. According to a source, the show's casting team has begun reaching out to potential suitors, including Dr. Mike Varshavski.
Varshavski, a family medicine practitioner, gained significant online attention in 2015 when People magazine named him "The Sexiest Doctor Alive." Buzzfeed also highlighted him that year with an article titled "Um, You Really Need To See This Hot Doctor And His Dog." He maintains a substantial online presence with over 15 million YouTube subscribers and 6 million Instagram followers, where he shares health advice.
This reported shift in casting strategy comes as "The Bachelor" faces pressure to revitalize its viewership. Recent seasons have drawn criticism, with some contestants and viewers accusing participants of joining the show primarily for career advancement or "clout chasing," rather than for seeking a romantic partner. The show's last lead, Grant Ellis, was reportedly accused of this by a contestant.
The series, which premiered in 2002, has seen declining ratings in recent years. In an effort to boost viewership, the show reportedly hired a new casting team this past July. The new approach is expected to focus on candidates who are "genuinely successful," "charming," and "actually looking for love," according to The U.S. Sun.
Sources suggest the ideal candidate will likely be in their 30s, possess a solid career, demonstrate good morals, and be a "huge catch." This strategy aims to recapture the appeal of the show's earlier seasons.
"The Bachelor" has expanded into several spin-off series, including "The Bachelorette," "Bachelor in Paradise," and "The Golden Bachelor." However, the franchise has also faced controversy, such as the recent pulling of a "Bachelorette" season before its airing due to a personal incident involving the selected lead.
