Thai Teen's Family Confronts Alleged Killer in Court
Australian man accused of murder faces victim's family as he indicates a guilty plea to corpse concealment.

The family of a 17-year-old Thai girl, whose body was discovered in a suitcase, attended a court hearing Monday to see the Australian man accused of her murder. Simon Peter Carman, 45, faces charges including murder, indecent behavior with a minor, and concealing a corpse.
Carman was arrested in June after the victim, Tunchanok Donhomla, was reported missing from Pattaya, a coastal city southeast of Bangkok. Her body was found in a suitcase near railway tracks shortly after.
During the procedural hearing at Pattaya Provincial Court, Carman, who had previously claimed self-defense, indicated he would plead guilty to the charge of concealing a corpse. He was informed by a judge that evidence against him on this charge was strong, but a confession could lead to leniency.
The victim's aunt, Miruntree Thanachai, expressed the family's desire to confront the accused, stating, "We want to meet the person who killed our family member." The family has also filed a civil lawsuit against Carman seeking $49,000 in damages.
Police stated that security footage showed the victim entering a condominium with Carman and later showed him leaving alone with a large suitcase, which he loaded onto a motorbike. The victim's father, Tongchai Donhomla, has questioned Carman's self-defense claim, citing injuries to his daughter's body.
"I want the death penalty, but there is nothing I can do. I want the law to punish, to the fullest," the victim's father told reporters. The family has appealed to the court to sentence Carman to death to prevent similar tragedies.
Carman was apprehended at a Bangkok airport attempting to board a flight to Australia. If convicted of premeditated murder, he could face the death penalty in Thailand.
