Texas Teacher Arrested on Charges of Grooming and Sexual Contact With Student

A Texas high school teacher has been arrested on charges of grooming and sexual contact with a child, authorities announced Tuesday. Gloria Resendiz, 35, a teacher at Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas, surrendered to police and is currently being held at the Denton County Jail.

The investigation began when the student's parents discovered communication between their daughter and Resendiz. According to an affidavit obtained by NBC DFW, the parents provided investigators with the student's phone, which contained FaceTime calls, phone calls, and text messages exchanged with Resendiz, who had taught the student the previous school year.

Investigators found deleted messages indicating Resendiz had given the student gifts. More concerning, locked journal entries on the student's phone allegedly described a romantic relationship, including kissing and cuddling. In one entry from June, the student wrote that she and Resendiz had acknowledged their feelings nearly three months prior. Another entry detailed their first kiss in March and subsequent instances of affection, with the student referring to them as dating and needing to "hide" their relationship.

Police reports indicate the student and Resendiz communicated multiple times daily, with some conversations lasting several hours. The student reported that Resendiz had been her teacher last school year, and they continued to spend significant time together this past year, including lunches alone in the classroom and staying after school daily.

Lewisville Independent School District has placed Resendiz on administrative leave and barred her from entering district facilities. The district is also providing counseling services to students at Hebron High School.

Resendiz was previously featured in a local Telemundo 39 report highlighting her role as a national referee for US Soccer, which occurred just months before her arrest.
