Texas is experiencing severe flooding in the same region that was ravaged by lethal floodwaters last summer. The National Weather Service in San Antonio reported "large and deadly" flood waves are expected down the Guadalupe River following days of torrential rain.
Emergency officials urged residents in the affected areas to evacuate early Thursday morning. Authorities rescued dozens of people as river waters continued to rise, according to the Associated Press. The Guadalupe River surged 32 feet in four hours, impacting Uvalde, Kerr, and Kendall counties in South Texas.
"CATASTROPHIC flooding is occurring. Move to higher ground now! Guadalupe River is rapidly rising and will continue!" the National Weather Service posted on X, formerly Twitter, at 9:39 a.m. EST.
Last year's flash floods, which originated from the same river, resulted in over 130 deaths. Among the fatalities were 25 children and two counselors at Camp Mystic, an all-girls camp situated near Kerrville along the river.
