A Texas mother of five, Caroline “Caro” Peña, died from stab wounds following a confrontation, authorities said. The incident led to first-degree murder charges against three women, including sisters Amaya Cookie Diaz and Kitty Mia Diaz, and their friend Kyandra Renee Faz.

Peña, 32, was allegedly repeatedly stabbed by 19-year-old Amaya Cookie Diaz during an altercation. According to Del Rio police, the other two suspects, Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, and Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, then allegedly beat Peña after she had already been stabbed.

Peña was transported to a local hospital and later succumbed to her injuries at a San Antonio hospital on the night of the attack.

Just two hours after the alleged assault, the Diaz sisters were taken into custody. Images from their arrest showed the sisters with what were described as smiling expressions as they were escorted by police.

All three accused attackers are currently being held on $5 million bonds. They appeared in court on Friday and each requested court-appointed attorneys.

Peña’s final social media post, made on June 11, was a prayer stating, “May God protect me from what my eyes don’t see and what my ears don’t hear.”
