Texas Mother Charged with Capital Murder in Sons' Deaths

A Texas mother has been charged with two counts of capital murder in the deaths of her two sons. Authorities responded to a 911 call early Thursday morning at a home in Waxahachie, located about 30 miles south of Dallas.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 21-year-old Christopher Scott Pitre deceased from a gunshot wound to the head. His 15-year-old brother, Brian Pitre, was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The brothers were found in separate bedrooms within the residence.

Colleen Lemmon, 42, was found inside the home covered in blood with a gun nearby. According to a probable cause affidavit, when questioned by police about the blood, Lemmon stated, "I shot both my kids."

Lemmon sustained non-life-threatening injuries, which appeared to be self-inflicted cuts to her wrists. She was taken into custody, treated at a local hospital, and subsequently booked into the Wayne McCollum Detention Center. Jail records indicate she is being held on a $2.5 million bond.

The father of the two boys, Scott Pitre, expressed a desire for justice for his sons. He shared that the family had recently celebrated Brian's 15th birthday at a local lake.

Graveside funeral services for the brothers are scheduled for Friday morning at Ferris Memorial Park North. An arraignment hearing for Lemmon has not yet been set, and no attorney is listed for her.

Neighbors expressed shock and grief over the incident. The Ellis County Sheriff's Office has extended its condolences to the victims' father and their loved ones.

A fundraising page has been established by the brothers' aunt to help cover funeral expenses. As of Sunday morning, the fundraiser had collected over $3,500.

The motive behind the fatal shooting remains unclear.
