Texas Mother Accused of Fatally Shooting Sons, Slitting Own Wrists
Authorities responded to a disturbance in Waxahachie and found the woman with self-inflicted injuries and her two children deceased.
A North Texas mother, Colleen Lemmon, 42, has been charged with capital murder after allegedly shooting her two sons and then attempting to take her own life, according to the Ellis County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to a welfare check at a mobile home on Big Sky Drive in Waxahachie around 4 a.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, they discovered Lemmon with apparent self-inflicted lacerations on her wrists and a handgun nearby. Her two sons, 21-year-old Christopher Pitre and 15-year-old Brian Pitre, were also found deceased at the scene.
One son, Christopher, was pronounced dead at the residence. Brian was transported to an area hospital in critical condition but later died from his injuries. Lemmon reportedly confessed to responding officers, stating, "I shot both my kids."
Lemmon was subsequently arrested and charged with two counts of capital murder. She is being held at the Wayne McCollum Detention Center in Waxahachie. The motive behind the alleged killings remains under investigation.
Sheriff Brad Norman expressed his condolences, stating, "My deepest sympathies go out to the victims’ father, family members and loved ones involved in this tragic incident. They will remain in our prayers during this difficult time."
Neighbors described the events as heartbreaking. "It’s heartbreaking, and I’m praying for them," said Ida Brown, a neighbor. "I’m praying for God just to let me understand, you know. There is no understanding, I guess, but it just hurts, and I didn’t even know them and it hurts."
Scott Pitre, the father of the two boys, told NBC 5 that Brian had recently celebrated his 15th birthday and expressed his desire for justice.
