New surveillance footage shows Caroline Raquel Peña, 32, minutes before she was fatally stabbed and attacked on June 25 at a home in Del Rio, Texas. The entire incident was recorded by a home surveillance camera, according to a newly released criminal complaint.
Footage from a doorbell camera depicted Peña, a mother of five, talking on the phone on the doorstep of Kyandra Renee Faz, 21, who is now accused in the attack. Shortly after Peña's arrival, two sisters, Amaya “Cookie” Diaz, 19, and Kitty Mia Diaz, 21, arrived in a black Chrysler 300. The complaint states that Amaya Diaz exited the vehicle carrying an object, believed to be a knife, and confronted Peña, allegedly stabbing her in the back. Blood was visible on Peña's shirt in the footage.
Following the initial stabbing, the complaint alleges that Kitty Diaz and another individual joined in the assault, beating Peña before fleeing the scene. Authorities have stated that the entirety of the attack was captured by a surveillance camera near the location.
Faz reportedly told investigators that Peña had arrived at her house seeking a confrontation. The Diaz sisters were taken into custody by police approximately two hours after the attack, with surveillance footage showing them smiling as they were being handcuffed.
Peña was transported to a local hospital by her nephew and was later airlifted to a San Antonio hospital, where she succumbed to her stab wounds around 9 p.m. The motive for the alleged attack remains under investigation by the police department.
Faz and the Diaz sisters are currently being held in custody, with a judge setting a $5 million bond for each suspect during their initial court appearance on Friday. All three defendants requested court-appointed attorneys.
