Texas Mom Charged With Manslaughter in Crash Killing College Graduates
Aldrea Rogers, 22, faces two counts of manslaughter after allegedly driving 82 mph in a 35 mph zone, killing a recent SMU graduate couple.
A 22-year-old Texas mother, Aldrea Rogers, has been charged with two counts of manslaughter in connection with a fatal crash that killed a couple who had recently graduated from Southern Methodist University.
According to an arrest affidavit, Rogers was allegedly driving 82 mph in a 35 mph zone when she collided with the vehicle carrying Julian Harris, 23, and Madison Duren, 22. Harris died at the scene, while Duren was taken to a hospital where she later succumbed to her injuries. Rogers' two young children were also in her vehicle at the time of the crash; all three survived.
Investigators stated that Harris was driving a Toyota Prius with Duren as his passenger when he attempted to turn left onto a main road. Rogers, driving a Hyundai Elantra, is accused of striking their car at a high rate of speed.
Harris and Duren were graduates of SMU, where they shared a passion for theater. Friends described them as curious and enthusiastic individuals who enjoyed connecting with others. A memorial service for the couple is scheduled for October 31 at Southern Methodist University.
Rogers was booked into the Dallas County Jail on October 16. Her bond was set at $250,000 for each manslaughter charge, totaling $500,000.
