A 25-year-old Texas man has lost a leg and sustained multiple serious injuries after being struck by a Lubbock Police Department patrol vehicle on June 6. Adonis Porter was exiting a business in Lubbock when the incident occurred.

Police were dispatched to the area around 5 a.m. following a report of an intoxicated man causing disturbances with employees. While en route to the scene, an officer's vehicle collided with Porter, who was walking along Interstate 27. Authorities stated that officers were responding to check on Porter's welfare, not to make an arrest.

Emergency services rendered aid to Porter at the scene before paramedics transported him to a local hospital. He remains hospitalized with severe injuries, including several broken bones and fractures, and has undergone multiple surgeries. His older brother has initiated a GoFundMe to assist with the extensive medical treatments, rehabilitation, and prosthetic expenses.

Nearly two years prior to this incident, Porter was arrested by the same police department on misdemeanor charges including possession of less than two ounces of marijuana, displaying a fictitious motor vehicle registration, and speeding.

In a social media post, Porter's girlfriend described his condition as critical and asked for prayers for his recovery. She also shared details about his long road ahead and urged support for the GoFundMe campaign.

The officer involved in the collision sustained minor injuries. The Lubbock Police Department has confirmed that an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
