A Texas judge has denied convicted killer Karmelo Anthony's request for a new trial. Kaufman County Judge Michael Chitty rejected the appeal on Saturday, which was based on claims that prosecutors violated a confidential agreement by presenting certain evidence to the jury.

Anthony, 19, was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison on June 9. He was convicted of fatally stabbing fellow high school student Austin Metcalf at a track meet near Dallas.

The defense team had argued that prosecutors withheld crucial information from the jury, including disturbing text messages sent by Anthony. Some reports indicated that these texts, which included threats to "shoot the school up," were not shown to the jury during the trial.
