Odin Hensley, a 17-year-old football player at Lake Travis High School in Austin, Texas, died Wednesday after suffering a cardiac arrest during practice two days prior, his family confirmed.

Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services had initially responded to the school Monday morning for a reported seizure, according to a statement from a public information officer. Hensley was transported by Travis County STAR Flight helicopter to Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

Lake Travis ISD announced Hensley's death to the school community in an email Thursday. The statement described him as a "dedicated two-sport athlete who excelled in wrestling and football." Teachers and coaches remembered Hensley as a "kind, determined young man who was a valued teammate, classmate, and friend."

A GoFundMe fundraiser was organized to assist his family with financial burdens.

Lake Travis football coach Hank Carter shared on social media that a student-athlete experienced a serious health emergency around 8 a.m. Monday and was airlifted to a hospital. Carter described the situation as a "very difficult time" for the team.

A vigil for Hensley was held Wednesday evening at Lake Hills Church, attended by approximately 350 people.
