A DoorDash driver in Houston continued her delivery route after being struck by a car fleeing from police. The incident occurred when a burglary suspect, identified as Torrance Whitaker, allegedly refused to stop during a traffic stop.
According to witness accounts and reports, the suspect's vehicle collided with the delivery driver, knocking her onto the hood of the car. While officers pursued Whitaker on foot through nearby yards, the driver recovered the dropped order from the street and proceeded to complete the delivery.
Houston police utilized a K-9 unit to apprehend Whitaker, who was subsequently charged with aggravated assault for hitting the driver with his vehicle. The DoorDash driver, who chose to remain unidentified, reported being in pain but avoided serious injury, such as broken bones. She is reportedly exploring options for filing a claim against the suspect's insurance.
Lily Portillo, a witness whose security cameras captured the event, described hearing the crash and then seeing the police arrive. She expressed concern for the driver, stating, "She needs a big tip. I really hope somebody finds her and hope she's OK."
