Texas Dad's Heartbreaking Statement After Ex-Wife Kills Daughter, Self

A father in Texas has released a statement expressing devastation after his ex-wife killed their 4-year-old daughter in a murder-suicide, hours after a court ruling that placed the child in his primary care. Vivian Savella was supposed to be brought to her father, Aaron Savella, on Tuesday evening, but instead, her mother, Cibelle Savella, fatally shot her before taking her own life.

Houston police responded to the residence on Tuesday around 5:45 p.m. and discovered the child deceased. Cibelle Savella sustained an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was taken to a hospital, where she died the following day. Her new husband and a babysitter were reportedly in the residence when the shooting occurred but are not believed to have been involved.

Attorney Stefani Shapiro, representing Aaron Savella, stated that her client had not alleged physical abuse of Vivian by Cibelle. However, he believed their daughter was "potentially being emotionally abused" by her mother. "Our family is devastated. Vivian was four years old. She was loved without limit by her father, Aaron, and by everyone whose life she touched," Shapiro said in a statement on behalf of Aaron and his family. "There are no words for what has been taken from us."

Shapiro added, "Aaron did everything the law asks of a parent who is trying to protect his child. He trusted the courts. He followed every order. He waited for the process to work. On Tuesday, a judge placed Vivian in his primary care, and she was supposed to come home to him that evening. She never did." The attorney also noted that the stories of fathers fighting to protect their children quietly and within the law are rarely told.

During a custody hearing earlier on Tuesday, Cibelle Savella learned that Aaron Savella was granted exclusive rights to make decisions regarding Vivian’s care. According to court documents, Cibelle was only permitted to spend time with Vivian under the supervision of a Texas-based organization called Guardians of Hope. The judge also ruled that Cibelle could not speak to Vivian in her native Portuguese unless a supervisor fluent in the language was present.

Cibelle was also ordered to pay child support to Aaron and contribute to half of their daughter’s medical expenses. She was prohibited from attending her child’s school activities or consenting to her medical treatment. Previous court filings indicated that both parents were barred from speaking negatively about each other in front of Vivian.

The couple, originally from Brazil, divorced in November 2024 after four years of marriage, which led to a contentious custody battle over their daughter. Cibelle's new husband is a restaurateur who owns a Chick-fil-A franchise. Cibelle's attorneys declined to comment on the matter.
