A construction worker died in Travis County, Texas, on Thursday when high winds caused a two-story home under construction to collapse, trapping him and another worker.
Four workers were on the job site when winds, reported to be between 50 and 70 mph, led to the structure's failure. Two of the workers managed to escape as the house came down. The neighbor living next to the construction site reported hearing a loud boom after observing intense winds that caused trees to blow sideways.
Emergency services, including Travis County Emergency Services District 5 and the Austin Fire Department Special Operations team, responded to the scene. They worked to stabilize and lift the collapsed structure off the trapped individuals. One of the pinned workers was conscious and breathing, while the other sustained severe injuries and was pronounced dead. Wind reports for the afternoon confirmed gusts reaching 60 mph in the area.
