Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico has responded to insults from former President Donald Trump, who has referred to him as “Talafreako” and “Talacreepo.” Talarico stated that he will not be drawn into personal attacks and will instead focus on the issues that matter to the people of Texas.
In an interview with CBS Texas, Talarico suggested that many voters who supported Trump in the last election did so with the expectation that he would lower prices, end prolonged conflicts, and address corruption. However, Talarico noted that inflation has risen due to tariffs, new military engagements have emerged, and the issues of corruption persist.
“So, there’s a lot of people in our state, including a lot of the president’s former supporters, who are feeling disillusioned,” Talarico said. He added that his campaign aims to connect with these voters and build a movement focused on working people addressing issues posed by wealthy donors and politicians.
Talarico emphasized that his focus remains on serving the people of Texas and improving their lives. He explicitly stated that he would not engage in retaliatory name-calling, asserting that such tactics do not address the rising costs of groceries, gas, utilities, or healthcare.
When asked about the potential impact of these attacks, Talarico remained unfazed. He highlighted that a "I'm a Talafreako" T-shirt is currently the best-selling item on his campaign website, suggesting a lighthearted approach to the taunts. His campaign is concentrating on addressing the cost of living, including expenses for food, gas, utilities, and childcare, which he noted is now more costly than college tuition in Texas. Talarico reiterated his commitment to finding solutions for these economic pressures and making the government and economy work for all Texans.
