A Texas bakery has ignited online debate with a Fourth of July message expressing deep disappointment with the United States and labeling the MAGA movement as a "cult." Hive Bakery, located in Flower Mound, Texas, posted on Facebook on July 3rd that its owners were "embarrassed, afraid, and disappointed in what this country has become."
The post further stated, "MAGA is adversarial. It’s a cult of unintelligent, rabid, immoral sycophants." The bakery also explicitly denounced the Trump administration, calling it "the most corrupt administration in our nation’s history." The message concluded with, "F— this fa$ci$t regime and every single person perpetuating the downfall of our country. Still holding out hope for an AOC revolution."
In response to the post, Hive Bakery stated in a July 4th video that it had received significant backlash. The bakery shared some of these negative comments, which included wishes for the business to be destroyed and suggestions for the owners to leave the country if they were unhappy. One commenter wrote, "Hope your place burns to the ground. You deserve it. F—ing leftist."
However, the bakery also reported receiving a wave of supportive comments from customers and others who agreed with their sentiment or wished to express solidarity. Some individuals expressed a desire to travel long distances to patronize the bakery, while others praised the owners for their outspokenness. A person identifying as Canadian commented, "If I had my passport, I’d go see you and buy a truck load of your fabulous goodies. This looks amazing! Plus love the fact you got balls."
Images shared by the bakery on July 4th included iced cookies decorated with an upside-down American flag and the words "UNDER DURESS."
