Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton recently drew criticism and online mockery after a typo in a social media post meant to announce a campaign event. Paxton, a Republican endorsed by former President Donald Trump, posted on X, formerly Twitter, thanking supporters in Lubbock and previewing his next stop: "Cypress with the great @TedCruz. We will keep Texas, Texas."

However, Paxton's post mistakenly referred to Cypress, a community near Houston, as "Cyprus," the Mediterranean island nation. The post was subsequently deleted amid the backlash.

James Talarico, a Democratic candidate challenging Paxton, quickly seized on the error. "It's Cypress, not ‘Cyprus,’" Talarico stated. He further used the mistake to critique Paxton's connection to the state, adding, "But for all the time you spend on luxury vacations in Europe, it’s no surprise you don’t know Texas."

Talarico's comment referenced past controversies surrounding Paxton's overseas travel. Paxton later posted a corrected announcement on Facebook, spelling Cypress correctly.
