Texas A&M Coach Elko Criticizes Online Fan Base After Loss

Texas A&M head coach Mike Elko publicly rebuked a segment of the team's fanbase, labeling the influential TexAgs online forum as "Billy's cesspool" following the Aggies' 27-6 loss to Missouri, which dropped their season record to 3-3. Elko's remarks came during his postgame press conference on Saturday.

The loss significantly dimmed Texas A&M's preseason aspirations of competing for a College Football Playoff spot. The team began the season ranked eighth nationally, with expectations high due to a veteran quarterback and a roster bolstered by substantial Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals.

Elko differentiated between the general fan base and what he termed "social media," expressing indifference towards the latter. "There's a difference to me between the fan base and social media. So there's one group that I really don't care much about. Billy's cesspool can go be Billy's cesspool," Elko stated, referencing the TexAgs website operated by executive editor Billy Liucci. He urged the broader fan base to remain supportive as the team works to improve.

TexAgs is a widely followed online community and message board in college football, boasting hundreds of thousands of followers across various platforms and a significant number of paid subscribers. Elko's direct criticism of this community has been met with surprise, given its prominence and deep roots within the Texas A&M athletic landscape.

The Aggies' remaining schedule includes challenging road games against Alabama and Oklahoma, as well as matchups with Tennessee and Texas. The team's current 3-3 standing suggests a difficult path forward to salvage the season.
