Tesco Trials Virtual Try-On Technology for F&F Clothing Line
The Sandhurst Extra store is testing AI-powered screens that allow shoppers to see how 1,500 clothing items look on them without physically trying them on.
Tesco is piloting a new virtual try-on system at its Sandhurst Extra store, aiming to enhance the shopping experience for its popular F&F clothing line. The technology allows customers to see how approximately 1,500 items of womenswear and menswear would look on their bodies using AI.
Shoppers can interact with the virtual try-on system via a screen located in the clothing section of the store. The system offers three options: taking a new photo of oneself, uploading an existing photograph, or selecting a digital model that matches the shopper's size. Once a selection is made, customers can browse the available clothing items, and the AI will generate a visualization of how the garments would appear on the chosen body.
The integrated screens also provide real-time information on stock availability, pricing, sizes, and the availability of items in other Tesco stores. This initiative is part of a broader refresh of the F&F section at the Sandhurst Extra location, which includes the addition of new changing rooms and a dedicated service hub to streamline checkout and returns processes. The store also features an expanded F&F range, updated signage, and improved lighting.
The introduction of virtual try-on technology addresses a common complaint among shoppers regarding the scarcity of changing rooms. Customers have frequently voiced this issue on social media platforms, with one user questioning the availability of changing rooms while trying on clothes on the shop floor. The new system is expected to be welcomed by shoppers who prefer to see how clothes fit before purchasing.
Tesco's F&F clothing line has gained popularity, drawing shoppers away from traditional high-street brands. The appeal of the brand has extended to celebrities, with figures like Zara McDermott and Abbey Clancy releasing their own lines with F&F. Social media platforms, particularly TikTok, have seen customers sharing their positive experiences and encouraging others to explore the affordable and stylish offerings, with many expressing strong satisfaction with the designs and quality.
