Terrell Owens Compares Jerry Jones to Donald Trump, Cites 'Narcissism'

Terrell Owens, a former star receiver for the Dallas Cowboys, has drawn a comparison between Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and former President Donald Trump. Owens, speaking on his podcast "Get To The Point," suggested that Jones is more focused on generating revenue and maintaining relevance than on achieving Super Bowl victories.

"He’s just like Donald Trump – he’ll just say anything, and a lot of people are eating it up and think it’s going to be true. Stop it," Owens stated, adding that Jones is selling Cowboys fans "a fantasy."

Owens further asserted that Jones, the 83-year-old owner, exhibits signs of "narcissism" and should cede some control of the team's operations. He believes Jones prioritizes the team's financial success, noting that as long as fans continue to purchase merchandise and maintain hope for a championship, the revenue streams remain strong.

Since purchasing the Cowboys in February 1989 for $140 million, Jones has overseen a period of success, including Super Bowl victories in 1993, 1994, and 1996. These championships followed earlier wins in 1972 and 1978. However, the team has not reached a Super Bowl since 1996, despite remaining one of the most valuable franchises in American sports, with valuations from Sportico and Forbes exceeding $15 billion.

Despite the team's recent struggles to reach the Super Bowl, Jones has expressed optimism for the 2026 season, though he acknowledged disappointment following the team's Week 1 loss to the New York Giants. Owens, who played two of his 15 NFL seasons with the Cowboys, implied that Jones's statements about contending for a Super Bowl might be more about marketing than genuine expectation.

Owens' comments come as the NFL season approaches training camp. The Cowboys are aiming to improve upon recent playoff performances and contend for a championship, a goal that has eluded them for nearly three decades under Jones's ownership.
