Terrell Owens Calls 49ers Receiver Mike Evans 'Really Average'
The Hall of Fame receiver questioned Evans' speed and route-running ability on his podcast.

Hall of Famer Terrell Owens has voiced criticism of San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans, stating that Evans' play is "really average." Owens shared his assessment on his "Get TO The Point Podcast," questioning Evans' speed and route-running capabilities.
"We were watching the game. Mike was playing, Mike Evans, and I was like, ‘Look at his routes.’ I’m like, ‘I can do that. It’s not like he’s blazing speed,'" Owens said. "[Evans] just knows how to run routes, knows where to go, and then the quarterback can save you. Like, he was just catching some really average plays."
Owens, who played for the 49ers at the start of his NFL career, also asserted that he could still perform at a professional level, suggesting that Evans' performance made him feel capable of playing in the league again.
Despite Owens' critique, Evans has had a strong season, recording 27 receptions for 420 receiving yards and three touchdowns. He is the only player in NFL history to begin his career with 11 consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons, a feat that surpasses even Jerry Rice.
Former NFL running back Todd Gurley, also present on the podcast, humorously mimicked a broadcaster praising Evans, only for Owens to retort that Evans was merely running "straight."
