Teri Hatcher's Miranda Priestly Debut Draws Comparisons to Nancy Pelosi, Mocks

Teri Hatcher's portrayal of Miranda Priestly in the West End production of "The Devil Wears Prada" musical has drawn criticism from fans, with many comparing her appearance to former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other public figures. Hatcher, 61, took over the role of the demanding fashion editor at the Dominion Theatre in London on Tuesday, replacing Vanessa Williams.

Online commenters focused on Hatcher's red pantsuit and wig, with several noting a resemblance to Pelosi, 86. "All I see is Nancy Pelosi," one user wrote, with another adding, "Genuinely thought this was Nancy Pelosi getting her groove on." Other remarks suggested the costume was a "more like the Devil wears Ann Taylor" or a "Temu version" of the character.

Some fans also saw similarities to Hillary Clinton. Despite the online trolling, other audience members praised Hatcher's performance, with one commenting, "She’s so good!!!"

Hatcher is scheduled to play Miranda Priestly for a limited engagement through February 6, 2027. In a statement following her casting announcement, Hatcher expressed her enthusiasm for the role, calling Miranda Priestly an "intelligent, commanding" character with "a glorious way of putting you in your place while being funny at the same time."

The Desperate Housewives star took on the role of the demanding fashion tastemaker at the Dominion Theatre in London, England on Tuesday

Meryl Streep originated the role of Miranda Priestly in the 2006 film adaptation. Hatcher's previous stage credits include the national tour of "Cabaret" and a Los Angeles production of "The Addams Family." She first gained recognition as a San Francisco 49ers cheerleader before her acting career, which includes roles in "Seinfeld" and as Lois Lane in "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman," followed by her long-running role in "Desperate Housewives."
