Tennessee Prisons Chief to Resign After Botched Execution

Tennessee Department of Correction Commissioner Frank Strada will resign from his position, Governor Bill Lee announced Saturday. The decision follows the failed execution of death row inmate Christa Pike on Wednesday.

Strada stated his stepping down is "in the best interests" of the state and called the ongoing investigation into the incident "incident" appropriate and necessary, according to CBS News.

Pike, convicted in 1996 for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, survived two attempts at lethal injection. She remains in critical condition at a Tennessee hospital while her legal team seeks to commute her sentence.
