A dispute over a drink led to a fatal shooting at a U-Haul store in Nashville, Tennessee, where one employee allegedly killed another, according to police.
Devin Rice, 23, was arrested on Aug. 5 and charged with criminal homicide in connection with the death of his co-worker, Fredrick Lytton, 56. Police stated that Rice admitted to arguing with Lytton over a drink before retrieving a pistol and firing multiple shots at him.
Lytton was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Rice reportedly fled the scene after the shooting but was apprehended by authorities.
In a statement, U-Haul area district vice president of Tennessee, Jeff Porter, expressed shock and sadness over the incident. "Our concern right now is being there to support the victim’s family and our Team Members affected by this tragic event," Porter said.
An obituary for Lytton described him as a dedicated cross-country truck driver who enjoyed NASCAR, animals, and classic country music. It stated that his "strong spirit, perseverance, and love of life" would be remembered and that his "memories and the love he shared with family and friends will remain forever."
One local resident, Joshua Houghtaylen, commented to WSMV that crime in Nashville is escalating and urged police to increase efforts to remove firearms from the streets, citing a rise in shootings within the city.
